Directions for Washing and Returning Talit Silk
1. Gently pull tacks out of stretchers and remove silk. Rinse tacks and dry them. Return tacks in small baggie or container.
2. Wipe excess dye off stretchers with damp paper towel. Put stretchers in large plastic garbage bag to return to me.
3. Washing the silk:
-Fill sink with very warm water.
-Immerse silk and rinse and squeeze gently.
-Drain water and refill sink.
-Do this several times until water in sink looks fairly clear. Sometimes there is a hint of dye in the final rinse, this is okay.
4. Lay pieces of silk on an old towel or paper towels to dry. (the damp silk will stain the towel) Do not hang or colors will run.
5. Iron silk COMPLETELY dry while it is still damp. Do not steam iron. Use a medium hot setting.
6. Put ironed silk into a LARGE zip lock bag. You MUST label the bag with the following information: your name, your phone number, your e-mail address and the type of silk that you want your talit to be made with.
7. Return the stretchers, silk and tacks by the Wednesday following your workshop to SSDS attention Joy Chertow, room 118. The building is open from 7:30am-5:30pm. You can leave everything at the front desk if you like, or bring it directly to my room. Your talit silk will be sent to my seamstress when all items are returned to me.
8. Your finished talit will be ready to be picked up at SSDS approximately 4-6 weeks later along with tzitzit and simple directions for tying the knots. I will call or e-mail you as soon as it comes in and give you times that you can come to pick it up from me in room 118. I do not like to leave the finished talit at the desk to be picked up as I cannot be responsible for them there.
